Ultimate Frisbee in Nottingham Games 2007-2008

September 29, 08 by -FCUK-

Photos courtesy of Chong and Ren Yi.

It was in the month of March 2008, when we had our first Ultimate Frisbee in conjunction with our Nottingham Games. A 3 day period, with a little fiery temper, rain, and laughter, made Ultimate somewhat a success. Even though the sport didn’t had a good reception and is unfamiliar to many people, there were 6 teams sent by students and 1 team from staffs.

Format was 5 aside, with 8 in a team, with the field size smaller than actual size. It was kinda hard for each team to find players as the University divides teams according to courses and faculties. But nonetheless, everyone had fun. The gold member went to Chemical Engineering, Silver went to Pharmacy (they have tall guys) and Bronze went to Business School (that’s us). Looking forward to the next Nottingham Games…..

Our Business School.

Cheering before matches.

Our captain, Sean, with his strong 2 handed throw.

Again in action.

Gan, after scoring. Very delighted.

Sometimes, these things do happen in Frisbee.

Rain was pouring hard and strong during one of the days. But we are hardcore players.

Saiful enjoyed scoring in the rain.

Everyone enjoyed themselves despite the rain.

Bronze it was for us.

The Year 1 That Was

September 11, 08 by -FCUK-

The year that was - the good old happy moments of Year 1. Lots of memories from Year 1, with exams, car wash, BBQ, Frisbee, geeky specs and many more that had made Year 1 interesting. Really enjoyed myself during the first year, with some crazy things that we do, playing Frisbee at night, fun mamak moments, getting awesome discounts from Ren Yi for Starbucks and spending time on the black leather sofa watching television and talking crap.

Alright, pictures will speak by themselves now.

Year 1 Class photo.

Exams during Semester 1. The picture just makes Saiful look good, but don’t be fooled. :p

Gan, washing my his car at my house.

Sze Wei spending a night at my house. Why? Cause he forgot to bring his keys. Don’t go back PJ so often next time. Hehe.

The time of the year again, and that wasn’t mine. We know whose was it.

Our university gotten for us, students, a new set of TV and surround speaker.

Waiting for exam results. Yeah, waiting. Seriously.

Me heading to Taman Sinar Harapan for some charity work with ACE Society.

Lollipop day.

Balakong (Cheras Selatan) trip together. Saiful was trespassing in the liquor section.

BBQ night.

Saiful and his new geeky specs.

Kelantan boy, Gan, with his raffles draw tickets. Excited and organised.

Everyone was waiting eagerly with their draw tickets, hoping to win. By the way, Gan didn’t win anything.

Cute puppy sniffing Gan’s shoes.

Semester 2 exams, look what exams made us into.

Our own Year 1 class annual dinner at TGI Fridays.

Days of Year 1 filled with people sleeping in class, especially during Law Lectures.

Days of Year 1 filled with endless Frisbee fun and Tournaments.

Playing Frisbee in the pool, this was how crazy we became when footballers were using the field.

Days of Year 1 filled with gay action and there’s more to come during Year 2.

Those probably sum up the Year 1 life and some special happenings. Year 2 is starting in 2 weeks and Chinese New Year will be different this time without Datuk K and Papa Bear. Am just looking forward for more Frisbee action, touneys to join and see what other funny things that Saiful and Gan will get/have….

UNIM Freeze

June 03, 08 by -FCUK-

Have you guys heard of The KL Freeze Event? It’s basically people freezing with their own preferred post at a spot and being stationary for few minutes. It was held at Pavilion on April the 13th and was quite a big hit, especially among bloggers. I didn’t know about it until Chong send me some videos. It looks cool and a great way to ease one’s boredom at some point. You can check out this link here for more info. Here’s also a video clip from YouTube on the event.

A few days after the event, suddenly some of my friends said that there will be a University of Nottingham Freeze. The event was posted on Facebook and invitation was send out to many people. You can read about the event description from the screenshot below. I guess we students here are just bored and wanted to follow the sudden trend.

In the end, few of my friends and I actually freeze in the university, but only us. That was it, only us and no one else. Weird, but true. And the person who planned to have this event, never really showed up because we were the only one freezing. No video, only picture, and it was taken by another student who was just enjoying to see us freeze.

Not really the hardest 5 minutes though….

Exams Are Done

May 19, 08 by -FCUK-

Finally exams are finished and that probably signals the end of the first year of my degree (I hope, if there is no resit for any of my modules). The papers are tougher than the previous semester, and I just hope I have enough marks to maintain my average for my 25% fees waiver, which is quite a lot.

“Summer” is here, with temperature really rising month by month in Malaysia. 4 months is just quite a long time and I am not going to join the Malaysian Nationals (for Magic the Gathering) this year as I have not qualified by skipping Regionals.

Hopefully my goal of spreading Ultimate Frisbee up north would be good, still keeping my fingers cross though. I was thinking of working at Tony Roma’s Mid Valley in August, but I haven’t check out whether are they hiring or my parents allow me to work there. Will see how it goes. Till then, just want to thank everyone who attended our personal annual dinner at TGI Fridays, The Curve on Friday….

April Fools’ at Starbucks

April 08, 08 by -FCUK-

We, as students of Nottingham went to visit our friend, Ren Yi (Uncle Buck) at Starbucks, Kajang. Sorry to disappoint, but there wasn’t any April Fools’ joke played on anyone.

Starbucks 01

Starbucks 02

Starbucks 03

That’s our Uncle Buck, Ren Yi. Looks like a pro. Well, I guess 3 years of experience is not wasted.

Starbucks 04

We were eagerly waiting to order our drinks.

Starbucks 05

6 cups for 7 people. Wait, where’s the 7th cup?

Starbucks 06

My Caramel Chocolate Chip. You can’t get it on the menu list, courtesy of Uncle Buck’s customisation.

Starbucks 07

Ah, the 7th cup. Hot Chocolate, with some great design by Ren Yi. This is Jonathan’s.

Starbucks 08

That’s the total of our orders. Original Price.

Starbucks 09

Wala, special price if you have friends working at Starbucks. My drink just cost me RM 8.

Starbucks 10

Everyone was just happy.

Starbucks 11

Happy.

Starbucks 12

Serious?

Starbucks 13

Enjoy. You can tell by seeing Sze Wei.

After around 2 and a half hours there, you wouldn’t want to know what we did after that. Well, I will tell you guys anyway, but in another post. It was just crazy stuffs….

Nottingham’s New Teaching Block

March 30, 08 by -FCUK-

Hmm, the images are not really that good after I have resize them to 500px X 375px.

The University of Nottingham (Malaysia campus), has just finished building a new teaching block, F3 to accommodate more students and also to make more rooms available for different modules (subjects). The new block has already being used for nearly 6 months now and the interior design is certainly different from the first teaching block.

Here are some construction photos of the new block.

Block F3

Isn’t it beautiful when it has finished? 3 floors of teaching hall, and a good tone of colour.

Block F3

The block is linked with a bridge connecting to the library. Sadly, there’s no beautiful river or pond below the bridge, unless a downpour happens.

Block F3

The emergency stairs, but also the main route for students to go to class.

Block F3

Yeah, even though there are 3 floors, we have lifts. Every block in the campus which has more than 1 floor will have a lift.

Block F3

Great view from the block. Beautiful scenery at Nottingham. Don’t worry, you will see a lot of this, from around the campus.

Block F3

Ops, probably not a good view for this. Cars getting clamped for parking in a non-student spot. RM 50 will be fined.

Block F3

Now, on to a sneak peak of the lecture rooms.

Block F3

Block F3

This is the seating design for one of the lecture rooms. There is another lecture room design, which I didn’t get a photo of. Sorry.

Block F3

Not 1, but 2 projector screens in this lecture room. All lecture rooms are equipped with projector screens.

Will this new teaching block be enough? I doubt so. Probably it can sustain for another 3 to 5 years or so, before they start building another one. By that time, I have to come back to have a look at the university…..

The pictures below will tell you how organise and passionate are they.

African Cup of Nations 1
