Magic Pro Tour Kuala Lumpur 2008

February 27, 08 by -FCUK-

Pro Tour Kuala Lumpur ended with a bang, with a Magic Legend winning the top spot with $40,000. Before I show you who the champion is, let me show you photos of my 3 day wonderful experience there. Even though I was just playing the side events, it was no doubt one of my best experience in Magic and I will remember this event.

The event was held at Exhibition Hall 4 & 5.

PT KL 03

The learn to play section. A staff from Wizards of the Coast was there to teach those who are new in Magic. It was definitely a good way to get newcomers interested.

PT KL 04

The Hall of Fame, with currently 15 people in it. You can read about them below.

Another artist who is there to demonstrate his innovative art work - making 3D Art of Magic Cards.

A 3D art work of Japanese Llanowar Elves. Nice.

PT KL 13

A huge model of Serra Angel.

PT KL 14

This is my friend, Bouncer from Penang, posing with the Serra Angel.

PT KL 15

This is another friend of mine, Soon Leong, from Penang also. He qualified for the Pro Tour and the only one from Penang to do so.

PT KL 16

The players at the Pro Tour, concentrating to get their hands on the $40,000.

PT KL 17

Malaysia’s number 1 player, Terry Soh, with his Nike Shirt. Nike just got a free marketing.

PT KL 18

Au Yong Wai Kin, another top Malaysian Magic player.

PT KL 19

Vincent Gan, Malaysia’s top Limited player.

PT KL 20

Remi Fortier, Pro Tour Valencia 2007 winner.

PT KL 21

Wafo-Tapa, Pro Tour Yokohama 2007 winner.

There were many more players in the event - Nassif, Finkel, Levy and others, but I didn’t manage to get their photos, cause I was stopped by a judge from doing so.

PT KL 22

Marcus and Andrew Lee, from Penang, playing at the 2 Head-Giant side event. Seeing this pair play will certainly make your day, cause they bring endless laughter to you.

Unfortunately, all Malaysian players crashed out of Day 1. That’s quite sad, even though the event was being held at home ground.

From left: Fung Han, Rosanne, Marcus and Andrew Lee.
This is a photo of 4 people who were running like it was the Amazing Race, just to catch the last LRT from KLCC. I was one of them too.

PT KL 24

University station was where we ate for supper after a long day. Boy it was enjoying but also tiring.

PT KL 25

The top 8 was decided after the second day of the Pro Tour.

PT KL 26

On the third day, the screening area was basically filled with lots of players as the 8 players were battling for the prize money.

PT KL 27

The two commentators were giving out their thoughts and opinions on the big projector screen (at the screening area).

PT KL 28

So who won this trophy and the $40,000 in cash prize?

PT KL 29

Well, it’s Magic Legend, Jon Finkel a.k.a Jonny Magic. I managed to take a photo with him. That’s the cool part.

Magic for 3 Days

Pro Tour Kuala Lumpur

Head down to the KLCC Convention Centre during the 15th, 16th and 17th of February to see one of the biggest events in Magic at Malaysia. That’s right, for all Malaysians out there, you do not have to fly overseas to watch all the pro play.

It’s Pro Tour Kuala Lumpur 2008 right here in Malaysia and it will be great. I will be there, playing the side events though. For more info on Pro Tour Kuala Lumpur, click here….

Temporary Freedom

December 13, 07 by -FCUK-

Class finally finished today. Had a new experience in the new teaching block (will be posting up pictures of the new teaching block next year). Ms.Chan, Business Law lecturer, was definitely a natural speaker. I guess that is why she was chosen to perform in a stage play.

Anyway, I am free from assignments and presentation now, but it will only be temporary. Classes of the first semester has ended, but there’s still exams. What a week it has been, for me and also Magic. The hard work done for the Entrepreneurship presentation certainly paid off. It didn’t went as bad as we thought it could have been and I guess the hours of meetings really paid off.

As for Magic, a great weekend it was for every Magic players, even if they did not made it into Worlds 2007. Uri Peleg, from Israel, emerged as the Worlds 2007 champion, beating a dragonstorm deck piloted by Patrick Chapin. The Swiss team also achieved success by becoming the 2 Headed Giant champion for Worlds 2007. A great draft deck by both teams from the Swiss gave them the edge over the Austrian. However, the biggest memory for all Magic players would be the matchup between Gabriel Nassif and Patrick Chapin in the individual Semi-Final. It was certainly a classic matchup and it will totally be one of the best matches in Magic History.

You can download the Semi-Final match at the Magic Worlds website or you can watch the exciting part of the match at YouTube, which can be found here. Trust me, it would blow your mind off if you did not manage to read about the match.

Anyway, 3 weeks off from school, but will be occupied by pre-exam preparation. Will be updating my blog from time to time. Oh yeah, no Singapore around this time of the year. Guess it won’t be another trip…..
